Australia's new warning: "Do not travel"

GOLD Coasters will be able to get first-hand insights into rebuilding the economy and tourism industry from the CEO of Australia’s major airline Qantas this week.

Qantas CEO Alan Joyce checks in at Home Of The Arts in Bundall this Thursday as part of a new talk series called “A Better Future For All”.

Mr Joyce will be interviewed by award-winning Australian journalist Kerry O’Brien who not only wants to talk tourism and economy recovery, but what “makes him tick”.

“Alan Joyce is one of the leading voices in the Australian corporate community. The decisions he and his board will be taking in the next few months will be affecting this community,” Mr O’Brien said. “To me Alan Joyce isn’t somebody who just runs Qantas. He is a highly experienced business leader.

“Businesses are one of the fundamental pillars of economic health. More than that I think (the) community generally looks to business leadership as they do to political leadership.

“I’m interested to actually find out what makes Alan Joyce tick. I’ll be talking to Alan about the tourism and travel industry and what lies ahead for Qantas and aviation. But also talking to him about a range of other things.”

There will be an invited audience to the conversation series and it will be streamed online from 6pm.

Some of Australia’s biggest names and influential thinkers will take part, including ACTU head Sally McManus and indigenous author Bruce Pascoe, within the following months.

“What we are seeking with these guests is they are people whose thoughts and ideas are working out relevance for you. That there will be no limit to the kinds of questions asked,” Mr O’Brien said.

A Better Future For All series is in partnership with HOTA and Griffith University.
