Premier Daniel Andrews is set to reveal when travel will be permitted between regional Victoria and Melbourne this weekend.

Premier Daniel Andrews has indicated he will reveal when the ‘ring of steel’ will be removed this weekend.

Mr Andrews flagged a date for ditching the hard border which has prevented Melburnians from entering regional Victoria could be close.

“The metro regional boundary won’t be there forever, it’ll come off when it can,” he said.

“I’ll have a little bit more to say about that hopefully on Sunday.”

Melburnians have been banned from visiting regional Victoria, except for permitted reasons, since July.

Victoria reported five new coronavirus cases on Thursday, all in Melbourne and linked to other known infections.

Metropolitan Melbourne’s 14-day average for new daily cases was 6.1, with 10 mystery cases over a fortnight.

Regional Victoria’s 14-day average was 0.4, with no mystery cases over two weeks.

There were just three active cases remaining in regional Victoria.
