Police investigating fight between Port Adelaide and Essendon supporters at Adelaide Oval

A SHOCKING fight in the Southern Stand at Adelaide Oval has been captured on video — marring Port Adelaide’s final AFL game of the season against Essendon.

A SHOCKING brawl in the Southern Stand at Adelaide Oval has been captured on video — marring Port Adelaide’s final AFL game of the season against Essendon.

The footage, which was filmed during Port Adelaide’s 22-point loss on Friday night, shows two fans scuffling in Bay 523 on Level 5 as women and children scream and other supporters call for the pair to stop.

One of the men, wearing a Bombers’ jumper, grabs a Power supporter into a headlock before throwing punches to his skull.

A second Essendon supporter then jumps down rows of seats to save the Power fan and pulls him to safety while screaming “stop it, stop it”.

Other angles of the same incident were also posted to social media and show surrounding fans, including children, scattering to safety as the brawl erupts. One of the videos has been watched more than 40,000 times.

A witness to the incident commented on one of the Instagram videos and slammed Adelaide Oval security for their “woeful” reaction time.

“It took well over five min for any security to arrive. The bombers supporters involved had all the time in the world to casually leave the area,” the fan wrote.

“My wife tried to find some security, but there was nobody, just a 15 y/o girl who didn’t know what to do!!”

Police said the fight is being investigated and appealed for public assistance in identifying the people involved.

“Police are aware of an (alleged) assault that took place at Adelaide Oval during the football match between Port Power and Essendon,” a spokeswoman said.

However, no complaint has been lodged with police.

The Stadium Management Authority said CCTV footage was being analysed to identify the alleged offenders who will face “significant stadium bans in addition to police action”.

“We will also work with the clubs to ascertain whether those responsible were members and, if so, they may face further penalties from their clubs,” an SMA spokesperson said.

Port Adelaide directed inquiries to the SMA.

In April at Adelaide Oval, an ugly fight broke out in the William Magarey Room during Port Adelaide’s loss to Geelong.
