A WOMAN spent the night in hospital where she was treated for injuries she sustained at a waterfront concert.

The incident comes as concerns were raised about overcrowding in sections of the Veronicas gig at the Hobart Regatta Grounds on Wednesday night.

An Ambulance Tasmania spokesman said paramedics transported a 19-year-old woman from the concert to the Royal Hobart Hospital about 9.30pm after she sustained a hip injury.

The woman’s condition was stable as at Thursday afternoon.

Launceston man Jarrod who travelled to Hobart for the concert described crowd control measures as “a sh*t show”.

“My friends and I were close to the stage and it was a struggle to breathe with how crowded it was,” he said.

“There were several security officers and police trying to push people back, then a fence fell down and hundreds of people flocked into that section.

“Officers couldn’t do anything to control it. I personally saw three girls trodden on, my friend lost her handbag, people were crying and I saw security guards getting drinks thrown at them.”

Jarrod said he and his Launceston friends were reconsidering attending future Hobart festival events.

Event organiser Brendan Self of Vandemonian Touring said there was a strong security presence at the event and said the majority of patrons complied with rules.

“We had 65 licensed security and safety wardens working at the event as well as a strong presence from Tasmania Police to ensure the safety of those attending,” he said.

“It’s definitely challenging for us as organisers and security to get people to understand that gigs and large scale events have had to change to be afforded the opportunity of going ahead.

“At last night’s concert there were a small number of patrons who would not comply with the restrictions placed on this event by the Tasmanian government.”

Another Vandemonian Touring hosted event is being held at the Regatta Grounds tonight with a sold out Hobart show from Brisbane indie-rockers The Jungle Giants.
