JUST one new coronavirus case has been recorded across the G21 region, with a new infection reported for Colac Otway.
The new case brought active cases in the Colac Otway municipality to nine, according to Department of Health and Human Services figures.
It comes after a staff member from Australian Lamb Company in Colac, who resides in Geelong, tested positive on Monday.
Barwon Health spokeswoman Kate Bibby said there have been no positive results from the ALC workers and close contacts tested so far following the case.
“Testing and contact tracing is underway to identify the source of the infection,” she said.
Colac Otway mayor Jason Schram said the mood in the area remained upbeat, after a significant decrease in active cases in the region recently.
“As soon as there’s a sign of an outbreak we get on to it pretty quickly,” Cr Schram said.
“We’re working our way towards that zero active cases goal.”
Meanwhile, active cases in Greater Geelong fell by eight, from 74 reported on Tuesday to 66 on Wednesday.
Active cases were steady on the Surf Coast at five, while Golden Plains and the Borough of Queenscliffe remained free of active cases.
There were seven in inpatients at Geelong hospital with COVID-19, including one in the Intensive Care Unit.
There were 149 new cases reported statewide on Wednesday.
Victoria reported 24 new deaths, including 21 linked to known outbreaks in aged care facilities.
The additional deaths brought the state’s coronavirus death toll to 462.
