JETSTAR has apologised to a Queensland mother who was approached by a flight attendant while pumping breast milk.

Natalie Jane Sawyer called for staff to be retrained after was asked by a crew member if she had a cover to cover herself up during a Monday morning flight from Brisbane to Townsville.

The staffer allegedly asked because people would be coming down the aisle to go to the bathroom.

Mrs Sawyer said on Facebook that she was in a row to herself and pumped when the passengers were seated and the seatbelt sign was on.

She said she was wearing a pumping bra so no part of her breasts could be seen and had a shirt to cover the bra.

“It shouldnt (sic) matter anyway if i was covered because legally i have a right to pump anywhere, anytime i want and if i feel the need to cover up i will do so and not because people have to walk down the aisle to the toilet,” Mrs Sawyer said

Jetstar spokesman Michael Scott said the airline had reached out to Mrs Sawyer on Monday afternoon to express their sincerest apologies.

“We want all mothers to feel welcome and respected when breastfeeding onboard our flights and deeply regret the offence caused by our crew member’s remarks,” Mr Scott said.

“We’ll work with our crew and remind them of our breastfeeding policy to prevent this from happening to other mothers.”

Mrs Sawyer said the flight attendant’s nice demeanour and smile didn’t excuse the words.

“There shouldnt (sic) be a situation. All i ask is to be treated like a normal person by your staff,” she said.

Mrs Sawyer has since deleted the post on Jetstar’s Facebook page.
