PLANS for a multimillion dollar development of dozens of storage units at Breakwater have been revealed.
Planning permit application documents lodged with the City of Greater Geelong detail the plans for a vacant site on Tanner Street.
Under the proposal, 41 storage units of varying sizes would be built at the site.
“Storage is a compatible land use within the industrial area of Breakwater,” the planning report says.
“Predominantly surrounding land uses are industrial/warehouse based which generate similar amenity affects to the proposed use, making the subject site an appropriate for the proposal.”
The development is estimated to cost $3 million.
“The storage units will have an overall height of six metres and be constructed of a mixture of painted concrete tilt panel walls, rendered groove finish wall panels,” the planning report, prepared by St Quentin, said.
“All warehouses will be accessed by roller doors with a standard access doors provided throughout.
“The use of the site will be for storage only.
“A pass code will be required to access the site and allow entrance through the roadside security gate.”
The storage units would contribute to the growth of the city through the development of employment opportunities and a diversified economy, the report said.
The application is available for public comment and is in the process of being reviewed by Geelong council.
No decision will be made before February 17.
