One of several bikies arrested in a “national day of action” to disrupt the Mongols club is set to miss his wedding after he was refused bail.

Bikies in Australia- A short history

A senior Mongols bikie engaged to be married this month, who is accused of flushing cocaine down a toilet while being raided by police, is set to miss his nuptials after being refused bail in court.

Joondalup Magistrate’s Court heard on Friday that Clovis Jeremiah Murhabazi Chikonga is also facing charges in two other states for assault and associating with bikies.

Police are currently testing 1.5L of toilet water after Mr Chikonga was “caught in the act” flushing the suspected cocaine when police arrested him at his Butler home on Wednesday.

They seized 16g of what is believed to be cocaine during the raid, as well as $26,765 in his bedside drawer.

The court heard the 33-year-old has a criminal history dating back 17 years.

Mr Chikonga was one of several bikies arrested, including notorious bikie leader Troy Mercanti, as drugs and weapons were seized.

The police operation was carried out by the gang crime squad as part of a “national day of action” aimed at disrupting the club, which has about nine members.

Officers executed search warrants in Landsdale, Thornlie, Darch, Girrawheen, Nollamara, Butler and Ellenbrook.

Four people – members and those considered club associates – were arrested.

It will be alleged drugs, cash and weapons – including an electronic stun gun device and a military-style bayonet – were also found.

Troy Mercanti, one of WA’s most notorious former bikies, was among those arrested.

The former Coffin Cheater turned Fink will face court next month on allegations he breached a supervision order imposed on him after his release from prison last year, which forbids him associating with bikies.

In applying for bail, defence lawyer Nick Scerri submitted a letter from Mr Chikonga’s fiancee, who he said was “of good standing”.

Magistrate Sandra De Maio asked how long they had been together and Mr Scerri said he did not know but given they were getting married, the wedding was “pre booked”, they did not get together “just last night” and the woman was a “positive influence”.

But Mr Scerri later told the court the couple had only been together since last month.

“They will live together until these matters are concluded and then spend their life together.”

He said nothing led him to think his fiancee was “anything but a true person”.

However Ms De Maio said she was concerned about how much of a positive influence his partner was.

“It can’t be much,” she said.

“The positive influence of your fiancee has little weight given the current charges and those in two other states which are recent,” she said.

However, Mr Scerri argued that Mr Chikonga and his fiancee only got together after he was charged with assault in Victoria in October before confirming they had only been together since January.

“It is so new that I still question her influence particularly given the offences two days ago,” Ms De Maio said.

The court heard Victorian police had issued an arrest warrant for Chikonga because he had failed to appear in court.

Mr Chikonga will next appear on March 6.
