A serial fraudster has struck again, this time convincing a friend to lend her almost $40,000. Here’s how she played on their emotions to get the loan.

A SERIAL fraudster convinced a friend to loan her almost $40,000 because she was about to get a massive inheritance.

But the money was never paid back.

Michelle Mary Bowlen was today sentenced to 18 months jail after she pleaded guilty in the Southport Magistrates Court to obtaining credit by fraud while bankrupt and false declaration by a bankrupt.

Magistrate Jane Bentley sentenced Bowlen to 18 months prison to be released after nine months.

“You convinced him to loan this money on a false basis that you were to receive an inheritance and would pay him back,” she said.

Bowlen convinced the man to give her $39,646.15 between November 13, 2017 and January 5, 2018.

She has not paid anything back.

Bowlen was on probation at the time.

She was convicted in 2016 of taking thousands of dollars cash from a workmate.

Bowlen had told the workmate she had a sick daughter.

She does not have a daughter.

Bowlen was further convicted in 2017 for taking thousands of dollars after she convinced her partner’s ex-wife to loan her money while waiting for an inheritance.

“Your offending involved lying to your victims, taking advantage of their kindness and trust,” Magistrate Bentley said.

“Your offending was persistent and deliberate and no doubt caused much stress to your victims.”

Bowlen was also ordered to pay back the almost $40,000.
