Margot Robbie’s mates arrested in paparazzo ‘brawl’

An attack on a paparazzo outside a swanky restaurant in Argentina where Margot Robbie was dining with friends appears to have been caught on tape.

Two British filmmakers potentially face up to six years in an Argentinian prison after being arrested for allegedly assaulting a paparazzo who snapped photos of Margot Robbie and Cara Delevingne.

Wolf of Wall Street producer Josey McNamara and filmmaker Jac Rhys Hopkins appeared before a Buenos Aires court on Monday afternoon local time after being detained in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr McNamara, a business partner of Ms Robbie, and Mr Hopkins were with the Australian actress and British supermodel at celebrity hotspot Patagonia Sur when photographer Pedro Alberto Orquera alleges he was assaulted, according to a police report obtained by News Corp Australia.

McNamara and Hopkins were released on $15,000 bail (200,000 Argentine pesos) each under the condition they don’t leave the country, and each had their passports seized pending the outcome of proceedings.

Buenos Aires prosecutors are awaiting the results of a forensic medical report to determine whether the pair will face charges of aggravated assault.

If convicted, the charge carries a potential sentence of between one to six years, or very aggravated assault, which carries a term of between three to six years.

It is alleged the pair chased down Mr Orquera, fracturing his elbow, after he photographed the Hollywood stars as they left the restaurant. The two men were arrested and detained under the order of the Criminal, Misdemeanour and Misdemeanour Prosecutor’s Office No. 34.

Ms Robbie, 32, and Ms Delevingne, 30, were in Argentina after flying in from Paris Fashion Week. It is not suggested that they are involved in any wrongdoing.

Ms Robbie had recently worked with Mr McNamara and Mr Hopkins on the soon-to-be-released movie, Barbie.

According to the police report, officers from the 4C Neighbourhood police station were called to the intersection of Rocha and Pedro de Mendoza avenues, where they allegedly found Mr Orquera with a bleeding head and an open fracture on his right elbow.

He was treated at the scene and transferred to a local hospital for surgery. The police report cites a witness statement from Carlos Alberto Benitez, the taxi driver who drove Mr Orquera to the scene on a commission from a magazine to photograph the stars.

Mr McNamara and Mr Hopkins remained in custody as investigators from the South Flagrancia Unit ordered toxicity reports, and for their arrests to be communicated to the British consulate.
