THE LNP candidate for Cairns has promised to fund lighting upgrades at Cairns cycling club.

Sam Marino will announce on Friday an elected LNP government would invest $145,000 to deliver new track lighting at the Cairns Cycling Club track.

Mr Marino said cycling is one of the fastest growing sports in the Far Northern region.

“The current lighting at the Smith Park track was installed in the 1960s and is unsuitable for requirements,” Mr Marino said.

“That’s why an LNP government will invest $145,000 to install new LED lighting around the track to ensure the cycling community have the best facilities possible.
