ALL lanes are closed inbound on West Gate Bridge after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a truck.
Delays are expected to affect city-bound commuters for several hours.
Police are yet to determine the identity of the motorcycle rider and emergency crews remain at the scene
Traffic is being diverted via Williamstown Road, but the peak-hour commute has been made worse after a separate accident on Dynon Rd, Kensington, where a truck rolled over.
Police are urging people to avoid the area.
VicRoads manager of real-time operations Keith Weegberg said the bridge would remain closed for a number of hours.
“All traffic is being diverted off the West Gate freeway at Williamstown Road, and as you can appreciate that’s creating an enormous amount of congestion in that area,” he told 3AW.
“We are asking motorists to be patient, because it will be a long drive in from the west this morning. The action scene is just at Cook St and the road is closed there and will be closed for some hours from what we understand.”
Mr Weegberg encouraged people to seek an alternative route before approaching the West Gate. .
“What we’re asking motorist to do is have a think about where they’re going and if they can divert well before that point. Millers Road, Geelong Road, Western Ring Road, they’re all better alternatives than the West Gate this morning.”
