“I bet there are many people who haven’t been to Queenstown for years and years and hopefully this inspires people to head west over the next few months,” TTICT chief Luke Martin said.

He said tourism operators had been moved by the groundswell of support from Tasmanians during the COVID-19 crisis.

“In the hour of need, Tasmanians are responding by getting out and supporting local operators and if we can keep that going over the next weeks or months hopefully that will get businesses over the line until we can start reintroducing interstate visitors,” Mr Martin said.

“You don’t have to spend a lot of money to get out and support regional destinations. When you’re going fishing, call into the coffee shop to buy your lunch rather than taking it with you, or fill up down there rather than before you leave.”
