The star behind George Costanza, TV series Seinfeld’s self-confessed “Lord of the idiots”, will bring his one-man show to next year’s Adelaide Fringe.
US actor Jason Alexander will perform at the Festival Theatre on February 16, as part of a national tour called Master of His Domain, after a line from infamous Seinfeld episode ‘The Contest’.
Alexander’s tour marks the 30th anniversary of Seinfeld’s debut on air, and he will let the audience decide what behind-the-scenes material is let out of the vault.
The actor will present a variety of topics for the audience to pick and choose from, while telling the story of his life and career in a mix of comedy, music and conversation.
In The Contest episode, characters Jerry, George, Elaine and Kramer competed to see who could go without pleasuring themselves for the longest time – after George’s mother caught him in the act.
The expression “master of my domain” has since become a popular catchphrase for self-restraint or controlling urges.
It will be Alexander’s first performance in Adelaide since 2009, when his comedy routine was interspersed with songs inspired by and parodying his Tony Award-winning career as a Broadway actor.
Premium tickets which include a pre-show meet-and-greet with Alexander will be sold as part of a $199 “Shrinkage Package” – another Seinfeld reference to when George’s manhood was adversely affected by the cold water in a swimming pool – which is limited to 50 people.
Tickets priced from $109-$119 go on sale today, Tuesday October 15, at 9am from adelaidefringe.com.au
