A Golden Plains Shire resident has questioned the quality of roads in the region after a large pothole formed along a recently repaired stretch of bitumen.
Resident Deon Mackay said a large pothole along the Inverleigh-Shelford Rd had been repeatedly repaired by workers using “band-aid solutions” over a six-month period.
“It’s just had band-aid solutions and more asphalt thrown into the hole,” Mr Mackay said.
He said the section of road was frequented by heavy vehicles, like trucks and caravans, and was dangerous.
“If someone is coming in the opposite direction there is nowhere to go,” he said.
“The roads here and not great, but this particular one is quite dangerous.”
Regional Roads Victoria Barwon South West director Vanessa Schernickau said crews were aware of the pothole and have been completing repair works to fix it.
“Making sure our roads are safe for the community is our number one priority, which is why we continuously roll out improvement projects and do regular safety inspections right across the network” she said.
Ms Schernickau said the speech limit in the area had been temporarily lowered to 40km/h while further assessments are completed.
This financial year, RRV will be rebuilding, repairing and resurfacing more than 250 kilometres of arterial roads as part of the Victorian Government’s $116 million investment in regional road maintenance across south western Victoria.
In 2018, about 2.2 kilometres of Inverleigh-Shelford Road was also completely rebuilt and widened as part of the Victorian Government’s $40 million investment in upgrading narrow roads across the region.
