Earlier on Monday, homicide squad detectives were investigating the death at the Lara property which has been the site of an illegal rubbish dumping operation.

Emergency services were called to the Patullos Rd property in the early hours of Monday morning where a man was found with stab wounds.

Paramedics worked on the victim, but he died at the scene.

Police, some in forensic gear, swarmed the property on Monday morning.
It is not the first time the site has received a visit from police.

The property has been drawing the ire of residents of the usually quiet road for months.

One nearby resident reported hearing yelling at the property, which was said to be a common occurrence, late Sunday night in the hours before the stabbing.

Another said people could often be heard partying and fighting at the site.

The property is owned by a Melbourne-based investor and rented through a local real estate agency.

Local business Transformer Bin Hire is registered to one of the men believed to be listed on the lease.

Bins marked ‘Transformer’, which physically resemble those featured on the business website, are visible at the site.

Attempts to contact Transformer Bin Hire management for comment were unsuccessful.

The Addy has been told various people, who are not believed to be listed on the lease, have lived at the property, which is more than 1.6ha, over recent months.

Transformer Bin Hire boasts of having the “cheapest” bin hire in Geelong on its website.

“We can even dispose of waste items that are usually prohibited, such as electronics, mattresses and tyres,” the website says.

Mountains of rubbish, including multiple mattresses, have been accumulating at the property for several months.

Last year in October, two men were arrested after emergency services were called to multiple suspicious fires at the property.

The Environment Protection Authority ordered the site be cleaned up by January 10, but mountains of waste were still visible a month past the deadline.

The EPA has previously said there are a range of legal actions it could take, including a maximum penalty of up to 2400 penalty units ($396,528).

Council has also demanded the site be cleaned up to no avail.
