A HIGHTON man is in hospital after his car flipped and rolled off an embankment before landing on its roof, police say.

Police responded to reports a car had driven off an embankment on Anglesea Rd at Bellbrae about 11pm.

The car had flipped on its roof before crashing into an unoccupied car and trailer, police say.

Officers searched the immediate area but were not able to find the driver.

He was later found under a tree on Moores Rd, about 500 metres away from the scene.

The 27-year-old sustained minor injuries and was ordered to undergo a preliminary breath test to which he allegedly returned a positive reading.

He was taken to Geelong hospital for observation and is expected to be charged on summons with drink-driving and other traffic-related offences.

The incident comes as police enforce Operation Scoreboard over the long-weekend.

The four day operation will see police scanning vehicles for registration checks and conducting breath, drug and speed checks.

The operation started at 12.01am on Thursday and will end at 11.59pm on Sunday.
