Headless torso case: Accused killer went to doctor with injuries

A RUBBISH collector has told a court of picking up a solid plastic bag that contained maggots from a Sunshine Coast woman accused of murdering her de facto partner in 2013.

A RUBBISH collector has told a court of picking up a solid plastic bag that contained maggots from a Sunshine Coast woman accused of murdering her de facto partner in 2013.

Robert Sunderland told the Supreme Court how, in 2013, Lindy Williams hired him to pick up palm fronds, a burnt mattress, burnt carpet tiles and plastic bags from her Tanawha home.

“I remember one in particular was really heavy ... It just felt solid,’’ he said of a plastic bag he had to carry with both hands.

He said Ms Williams said to him: “Watch out for that bag, there’s a rat.’’

“Well, once I got it in the truck, well it was a rat, dried out ... Maggots were coming out of the bag,’’ he said.

Lindy Yvonne Williams, 60, has pleaded not guilty to murdering her de facto partner George Gerbic, 66, in September 2013, but guilty to disposing of his body.

Mr Gerbic’s headless, legless and armless torso was found burning on the side of the road near Gympie on September 19, 2013.

He was not identified for more than 10 months.

Williams has claimed Gerbic died after hitting his head on a kitchen bench top, after slipping on her blood, after he cut her arm at their Tanawha home.

Marion Greer told the court how Williams told her in 2013 of Gerbic having lashed out at her with a knife and of seeing her friend with stitches in one arm and bruises on another. She said at one stage Williams told her she believed Gerbic was bisexual.

Loretta Vecanski told the court around September 20, 2013, Williams phoned to tell her Gerbic had belted her and she had left the house and was staying in a motel.

Ms Vecanski said after Williams flew to Sydney to stay with her, she had a clean slice on her left wrist and stitches that were infected. Williams told her Gerbic had come at her with a knife.

The headless torso was found on Cedar Creek Rd near Gympie.

Dr Marc Daniels said he saw a cut on Williams’ right arm on September 11, 2013, but he could not conclude whether or not it was self-inflicted. He said Williams told him her ex-partner had assaulted her five days earlier and she had bruising on her other arm and a painful area on the back of her head.
