THE search is on for carers to raise the next generation of furry heroes guiding the vision-impaired through life.
Geelong’s most recognisable voice Denis Walter is an ambassador for Guide Dogs Victoria and has called the community to give their time to become puppy-raisers.
“They’re obviously always on the lookout for people to care for the young puppies and bring them up,” he said. “The service is incredible. It gives people a feeling of security and to be part of that process is just fantastic.”
Puppies can’t be left alone for more than three hours per day, so potential puppy-raisers need to have plenty of time on their hands. The dogs can be taken to workplaces, but puppy-raisers must be able to attend training, held in business hours.
The puppies have to be able to sleep indoors and carers should have a moderate fitness level, a registered and insured car and provide a safe environment.
