Government launches new discount card for Australian military veterans

Australian Defence Force veterans are set to receive a new card offering thousands of discounts, as a sign of gratitude for their service.

The government has unveiled a new special card for military veterans offering thousands of discounts.

A special card for Australian Defence Force veterans has been launched by the Federal Government today, offering thousands of discounts.

The card serves as a gesture of appreciation and gratitude on behalf of the country to those who have served it, the government said.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the card would provide access to more than 10,000 offers from some 500 business, both online and over the counter.

“Much like the lapel pin gives every day Australians the opportunity to recognise veterans and thank them for their service, the offers available through the veteran card allow the business community to show its thanks,” Mr Morrison said in a statement.

Veterans’ Affairs Minister Darren Chester said the government was partnering with the organisation APOD, which acknowledges the contribution and sacrifice of veterans, to ensure vets could easily use the card in their local communities.

“I encourage all businesses to get on board with the Australian Defence Veterans’ Covenant, and show their respect and recognition for those who have served to defend our nation,” Mr Chester said.

The release of the card follows the passing of laws underpinning an Australian Defence Force Covenant in October.

Mr Morrison has also begun acknowledging men and women who serve Australia in the military in speeches, as an addition to his recognition to Indigenous elders.
