Police investigating ‘suspicious’ fire at Nerang’s Fully Promoted embroidery store on Gold Coast

POLICE are investigating a fire that ripped through a Gold Coast business this morning.

Emergency services were called around 9.20am after reports of a fire at Fully Promoted embroidery store on Nerang St, Nerang.

Co-owner Linda Sutton told the Bulletin the incident was another nail in the coffin after the coronavirus hit trade in March.

“We thought buying a business before COVID-19 hit was soul-destroying but now we are confronted with this,” Ms Sutton, 50, said.

“We haven’t been able to go inside but we can see there has been a lot of damage to the front of our shop — it’s heartbreaking.

“More than 30 customer orders are smoke damaged. We are also concerned about our $70,000 embroidery machines.”

No one was inside at the time but one patient, with a finger injury, was assessed at the scene.

Fire investigators and police are still on scene.

A Queensland Police spokeswoman said the incident was suspicious and a crime scene had been declared.

Queensland Police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
