The Gold Coast’s newest theme park ride will open within days as new images reveal the next incredible attraction to be built at Sea World.

Village Roadshow has unveiled new images and footage of it under-construction $50 million, 1.5ha New Atlantis precinct which will be used over the festive season to promote the Gold Coast and its raft of new attractions.

But thrillseekers won’t have to wait long to get their first taste of the action, with the first of its rides to begin operating in December.

Village Roadshow chief operating officer Bikash Randawa said an announcement about the opening of the Vortex - a Wipeout-like ride - would be made “any day”.

It’s Leviathan wooden roller coaster is well underway and the Trident which spins people around 42 metres off the ground.

“The landscape is changing dramatically as construction continues on the Leviathan roller coaster and work will soon begin on the Trident, both of which will open in June,” he said.

“The timing has been a blessing because certainly this whole precinct will drive tourism because there will be nothing else out there which is new.

“Every major campaign for Destination Gold Coast going forward should be headlined by this precinct because it will give us the cutting edge in the domestic market.”

Destination Gold Coast chairman Paul Donovan said the rides would come to play a major part in promoting the city.

The $20 million Leviathan will be the first new wooden rollercoaster built in Australia and is already rising over the city’s skyline.

The first major peak of the attraction can already been seen soaring above the theme park, with construction only just passing the 25 per cent mark.

The Trident, first announced in mid-2019, will soar 42 metres off the ground, spinning guests at 38km/h.

Mayor Tom Tate said promoting the city and its new tourism assets was critical through the summer.

“Our theme parks are the background of domestic family holiday travel, with millions of Aussies enjoying our parks every year,” he said.

“Bookings for the upcoming Christmas-January period are strong with visitors not only attending our parks, but staying In-house in accommodation like SeaWorld.

“To see this investment in our parks and attractions shows that operators have a long-term vision for their business.

“I’m encouraging the State Government to be generous with their $74 million tourism infrastructure fund, and invest in an expansion of our recreational dive attraction, and to jointly fund a business case study into a sky rail for our hinterland.”
