Gold Coast nurses volunteering on coronavirus frontline in Victoria
Two brave Gold Coast nurses are among more than a dozen medicos across the state who have put their hand up to help on the frontline.

WHILE most people are trying to escape the COVID carnage in Victoria, two nurses from the Gold Coast University Hospital are willingly travelling south to tackle the worst of the pandemic head-on.
Topaz Stringfellow and Rachel Galuzen-Meakins have left friends and families behind to work in Victoria for up to three months. They will test those suspected of having the virus.

Victoria is in the midst of second wave of coronavirus, recording hundreds of new cases every day.
Both health professionals have worked at Gold Coast fever clinics since March and have a background in infection control.
“I just thought ‘I can help’,” Ms Stringfellow said. “Help out our fellow nurses.”
Ms Stringfellow said Victorian frontline workers could not be more grateful for the help.

“They have been so receptive. I guess it’s like when you are in the trenches and it’s getting rough and the reinforcements arrive, you are just so relieved. It makes me really proud to be a part of Queensland Health and that we have the ability to help our neighbours.”
Ms Galuzen-Meakins said she felt just as passionate about assisting her colleagues.
“I have had all of the COVID training in Queensland and I just thought I want to help them get through this,” she said.
