A Geelong pub has raised the bar to claim the title of regional Victoria’s Hotel of the Year.
The Grovedale Hotel, known to regular patrons as ‘Grovey’, dominated the regional sections of the Australian Hotels Association’s Victorian awards for excellence announced in Melbourne last week.
The pub also walked away with the Best Casual Dining — Regional and Best Pub Bar — Regional awards.
The Grovedale Hotel is managed by Joel Taylor who, with his father John, have run the pub since 2006.
Other locals award winners were the Lorne Hotel — Movida (Best Pub Restaurant — regional), Murphys Geelong (Best Sports Bar — regional) and the Queenscliff Brewhouse (Best Innovative Retail Space). The Hotel Esplanade in St Kilda claimed the overall Hotel of the Year.

Oska Jarvis-White from the Hotel Esplanade was acknowledged as the emerging leader of the year, winning the Peter Burnett Scholarship for Hospitality Excellence, named after Geelong’s hotel industry leader who passed away in April.
A joint Victorian Government and AHA initiative, the scholarship provides $10,000 for industry training and experience.
The finalists and winners were honoured at the ceremony in front of 1250 guests and professionals of the hotel industry.
