A GEELONG woman, who has overcome serious health challenges, has claimed victory at a national pole dancing competition.
Fiona Macys, a speech pathologist and actress, was named amateur champion at the Australian Pole Championships in Canberra earlier this month.
About four years ago Ms Macys battled a neurological illness that affected her nerves and made her briefly paralysed in her arms and legs.
She was hospitalised and underwent rehabilitation to walk again.
Ms Macys was introduced to Kylie J Pole Studio in Geelong, and developed strength through the craft, while discovering an empowering environment.
She is now an instructor at the studio.
