Geelong region roads to share in $12.69m in upgrades

Some of Geelong’s busiest roads will receive a total of $12.69 million worth of works thanks to a state and federal government funding splurge. FULL LIST OF PROJECTS

Nine roads across the region will have $12.69 million spent on them to improve safety.

Following a partnership between the state and federal governments some roads will have safety barriers installed while others will undergo work to improve traffic flow.

The projects to be funded under the program are:

• $504,000 for the Barwon Heads Road & Bluestone School Road Intersection Improvements project;

• $1,008,000 for safety barrier installation on the Geelong-Portarlington Road between Point Henry Road & Moolap Station Road;

• $1,008,000 for road-safety improvements on the Bellarine Highway and at the Queenscliff Intersection, all in the Corangamite electorate.

Other works in that electorate will include:

• $2,520,000 for the Forrest-Apollo Bay Road & Skenes Creek Road Safety Improvement project;

• $2,520,000 for Portarlington-Queenscliff Road safety improvements and; $504,000 for road safety upgrades along the Great Ocean Road, west of Apollo Bay (shared project with the Wannon electorate).

In the Corio electorate:

• $705,600 will be spent on upgrading Ballarat Rd at Shannon Ave and Church Street;

• $957,600 on Pakington Street at the Hamilton Highway, Church St and West Fyans St;

• $3,024,000 for Princes Highway safety improvements from Cox Road to Broderick Road.

Victorian Senator Sarah Henderson said: “This vital funding is not only providing a much-needed boost to local jobs and the economy, it is delivering life-saving upgrades to ensure road users stay safe on our roads.”

Across the state more than 100 projects are due to begin by the middle of the year under the $245m program with $183m from Canberra and $62m from Victoria.
