GEELONG ruckman Ryan Abbott has surged into contention for an AFL debut against Adelaide on Thursday night.

Cats coach Chris Scott this morning revealed the former Grovedale big man was a live chance to come into the side for the trip to Adelaide Oval.

Abbott has been close to a debut in recent weeks.

He did not play in the VFL on Sunday but that could work out in his favour given the tight turnaround.

With Harry Taylor in doubt for the Crows, an Abbott inclusion could release Rhys Stanley to play forward.

Daniel Menzel is also likely to take on the Crows, provided he pulls up well over the next 24 hours after playing in the VFL on Sunday.
