Exclusive: A fourth Australian man has been charged by police following a series of raids in the Philippines over online child sexual abuse.
A 62-year-old man from Sulphur Creek in northwest Tasmania was summonsed to face court on child exploitation offences allegedly committed over Skype.
The charges follow a police raid on a seedy sex den which 13 children aged from 19 years to just one-year-old were rescued.
A 28-year-old woman was arrested in the Philippines and charged with facilitating the abuse of the seven boys and six girls in her care.
The arrest follows co-operation between the Tasmanian Joint Anti-Child Exploitation Team, the Australian Federal Police and the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Centre.
It will be alleged in court that the man had conversations about the facilitation of exploitation material and exchanged, received and purchased explicit images with his female co-accused in the Philippines via social media application Skype.
The man first came to the attention of authorities at Melbourne International Airport in October when he arrived into Australia from Romani.
Australian Border Force officers allege they discovered child exploitation materials on his mobile device.
He will appear in the Burnie Magistrates’ Court on 12 August, 2020.
The AFP’s Senior Officer in Manila, Detective-Superintendent Andrew Perkins said the investigation “should serve as yet another serious warning to predators and those who seek to exploit children. You cannot hide behind international borders or even the COVID-19 pandemic,” Det-Supt Perkins said.
