Former lawyer Pat Lennon has been charged with a string of offences over an alleged attempted burglary last month.

Victoria Police allege Mr Lennon unsuccessfully attempted to break into a home in South Yarra in the early hours of January 17.

The house is normally occupied by a woman who is locked in a bitter legal dispute with him but no-one was home at the time.

CCTV footage captured a man clambering over the back fence of the property and unsuccessfully attempting to prise open the back door.

He climbed back over the fence and left after about 40 minutes.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said they have charged a 60-year-old Caulfield North man with aggravated burglary, attempted burglary, burglary, two counts of criminal damage, two counts of stalking, and theft of a motor vehicle.

Police raided his mansion in Caulfield North on February 9 and allegedly seized drugs, gel blasters and stolen goods.

He was bailed and is to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court on March 15.
