‘Quiet week’: Scott Morrison rips into Covid-positive Anthony Albanese

Scott Morrison has got stuck into Anthony Albanese for how he’s spent his time in Covid isolation.

Labor campaigns without Albanese

Scott Morrison has put the boot into Anthony Albanese for having a “quiet week” despite being in Covid isolation.

The Prime Minister’s flurry of morning media appearances ended with Today’s Ally Langdon asking if he “missed” the Labor leader while he was in quarantine.

“Well, I'm looking forward to him rejoining the campaign. He’s had a pretty quiet week,” Mr Morrison told Nine.

“I remember when I was in iso I had a pretty busy week, attending Quad Summits and doing all those sorts of things.”

“Oh C’mon,” Langdon interjected. “He’s been zooming. He’s been doing his best.”

Asked what he thought of Jim Chalmers’ performance as the Labor leader’s stand in, Mr Morrison snickered: “Oh sneaky Jim!”

“He’s got his sneaky carbon tax.”

To which an off-screen Karl Stefanovic offered an animated response: “Ouch”.

Earlier, Dr Chalmers downplayed concerns Labor has performed better without Mr Albanese on the road.

“In his absence, we have done our best. We have showcased our team,” he told Nine.

“One of the great things about Albo is his leadership style is to build a team and lead a team. And you’ve seen the team over the last week.”

Meanwhile, Mr Albanese said he is looking forward to getting back on the hustings as he tries to get his campaign to become Prime Minister back on track.

Speaking with Sydney’s WSFM, the Labor leader said he got the fright of his life when he received the text message advising him he had tested positive to Covid last week.

But he conceded he’ll have take it easy when he returns to the hustings.

“My doctor tells me I have to take things easy, particularly in the first few days to not do the 16 and 20 hour days that I was doing, but it will be good to be out and about,” he said.

“The first thing I'm doing is heading to Western Australia where we have our campaign launch this Sunday.”

It comes as Tasmanian firebrand Jacqui Lambie joked Mr Morrison and Mr Albanese should take turns in taking time away from the campaign.

“Maybe they need to take it in turns. Maybe Scott could get it next week and take a week off,” she laughed.

“Things would be a bit more pleasant out there on the ground.”
