Peter Dutton blasts claims Labor could take his seat of Dickson

Peter Dutton has doubled down again on claims he could be in trouble in his own marginal electorate of Dickson.

Peter Dutton's election campaign is in the danger zone - can he get out of it?

Peter Dutton has doubled down again on concerns he could be in trouble in his own electorate of Dickson.

It comes after a UComms poll, commissioned by Queensland Conservation Council and obtained by news.com.au, shows Labor’s Ali France ahead of Mr Dutton 52-48 on a two-party preferred basis in Dickson.

Mr Dutton said he’d “seen this movie before” on Saturday.

“It’s a marginal seat. I’ve never taken it for granted. And I have worked hard in my seat from day one. But it’s an email going around from the Labor Party saying donate to the Labor Party because we can get rid of Peter Dutton. So it’s just a marketing...plot,” he said.

He also blamed GetUp, a left-leaning political campaigning vehicle, for trying to hype up the chances of him being rolled.

“GetUp are the same people now behind (the) teal movement. And there are many Greens and others who are playing all sorts of games, but I’m pretty confident that people at Dickson will see through all of that charade,” he said.

His latest comments come after he fired a warning shot at Anthony Albanese, telling him to “bring it on”, as Labor ramps up its efforts to oust the Opposition leader from his own marginal Queensland seat.

Mr Dutton accused Labor, which publicised a $130,000 injection into its Dickson campaign, of undertaking a “PR stunt” to bolster its war chest.

He also disputed new polling that reveals the race is closer than expected as “second-rate”.

“They’re carpet-bombing saying ‘donate to the Labor Party to get rid of me’,” Mr Dutton said.

“Queensland is onto Anthony Albanese in a big way … they know that he’s been a disaster for Queensland and for our country.

“If he wants to spend every dollar he’s got in Queensland or in Dickson, bring it on.”

The north Brisbane seat of Dickson is the state’s most marginal at 1.7 per cent.

Mr Dutton, who became the member in 2001, said he had never taken it for granted.

Analysis of digital advertising shows the Liberals have recently increased their local spend.

The Prime Minister on Friday threw his support behind Labor candidate Ali France, saying she would be an “amazing member”.

“We’re taking Dickson seriously. That’s why we campaigned there on day one,” Mr Albanese said.

“If Ali France got the same swing in 2025 that she got in 2022 she will take her place in the House of Representatives.”

Mr Albanese’s first visit of the campaign was to Dickson with Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Health Minister Mark Butler.

A revolving door of senior Labor ministers have also been making appearances in the seat, including Energy Minister Chris Bowen and Education Minister Jason Clare, with Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong the latest to visit on Friday.

Meanwhile, Climate 200-backed independent candidate Ellie Smith is expected to peel votes off both major parties.
