FORMER bad boy academic Martin Hirst has landed himself a new job.

The sacked Deakin University associate professor, last year booted from his position as journalism lecturer following controversial social media comments, has been admitted to the Canberra Press Gallery.

Independent Australia crowd funded $10,000 to send Mr Hirst, it’s political editor, to the Canberra Press Gallery to cover the Budget session in early May.

The gofundme.com crowd-funding page boldly claimed sending Mr Hirst to Canberra was “vital to the nation”.

Mr Hirst was sacked by Deakin University following a series of controversial comments on social media, including referring to Twitter trolls as “stupid as f-”, one calling Sky News readers “masturbating chimps”, and another seemingly threatening post asking a Deakin student if he would be happy to fail Commerce.
