A DARWIN taxi rank could be removed if one City alderman has his way, suggesting it could help address anti-social behaviour in the CBD.

Alderman Gary Haslett will tonight ask the council to investigate moving or removing the Knuckey Street taxi rank, opposite Raintree Park and outside Go Sushi X and Phat Mango, as well as find solutions to anti-social behaviour at the location.

“In an attempt to mitigate anti-social behaviour at the taxi rank located on Knuckey Street Darwin, I call for a report investigating the options to move or remove the taxi rank,” he said.

“Some of the shop owners are worried the taxi rank is bringing itinerants to the area and lingering on their shopfront.”

Mr Haslett said he thought there could be a more suitable location for the rank to suit business owners, taxis and passengers.

“There might be a place to put just two cabs on the other side instead, then you look at what you do, you could add some more car parks there.”
