A GEELONG ice dealer who tried tempting a vulnerable teenage girl with photos of his drug stash has been jailed.
Matthew Kelsall, 28, was sentenced at Geelong Magistrates Court on Monday to an eight-month prison term.
The Corio man had pleaded guilty last week to charges including drug trafficking and attempting to commit an indictable offence on bail by supplying a drug of dependence to a child.
In August last year, Kelsall was caught bombarding a 17-year-old girl with hundreds of messages, including some that contained photos of the drug ice.
The court heard Kelsall was “obsessed” with the teenager, who felt she was being harassed.
The girl told police she believed Kelsall was trying to tempt her to see him by sending photos of drugs.
Kelsall had already been warned by police to stay away from the teen, who had been categorised as a “high risk youth”, the court heard.
Magistrate Franz Holzer said Kelsall’s decision to sell drugs involved him “peddling poison” in the community.
“It’s insidious. It creates pain and grief, and it’s something that is entirely avoidable,” Mr Holzer said.
Kelsall was also put on a 15-month community correction order that will include drug treatment and programs to reduce the risk of reoffending.
He has already served more than five months in custody.
