Comanchero bikie boss Allan Meehan has been dethroned as National President after his arrest last month, and replaced by a Melbourne housepainter.

Meehan lost presidency of the club after being arrested and escorted through Sydney airport following an alleged breach of a Serious Crime Prevention Order.

He’s now been replaced by Bemir Saravec, a Melbourne-based housepainter who gets about town in a $700,000 Lamborghini. The pair are reportedly close, having been frequently spotted together including at the George Kambosos-Devin Haney boxing match in Melbourne last year.

The leadership of the club has been in turmoil after a string of high-profile arrests took out the top players, including one former National President who is facing murder charges.

The national presidency eventually went to Meehan, who was immediately hit with a Serious Crime Prevention Order and fled to the Gold Coast, allegedly breaching its conditions.

Mr Meehan was escorted through Sydney airport by a throng of cops in an embarrassing scene last month.

The heavily tattooed 35-year-old was arrested at a Gold Coast home after claiming there was a “$3m hit on his head”, The Daily Telegraph reported at the time.

Detective Superintendent Grant Taylor did not confirm the alleged bounty on Mr Meehan’s head but did say police often informed gang members of “risks” relating to them.

“We constantly interact with outlaw motorcycle gang members when we deem it necessary to determine that we should tell them about a particular risk,” he said.

“Let me make it very clear, to be a member of the outlaw motorcycle group is a risk in itself. They all know that every day of their lives.

“To be the national president of one of the biggest outlaw motorcycle groups in this country, you’re throwing yourself out there in regards to any sort of potential issue.”

Superintendent Taylor said police would “stand firm” with their allegations that the former bikie boss fled NSW to escape the Serious Crime Prevention Order. Mr Meehan is expected to fight the charges and is listed for a bail application in the Supreme Court for April 5.

Police allege Mr Meehan breached the order four times in relation to where he resides and using encrypted communication applications.

They allege Mr Meehan fled Sydney “almost immediately” after that order was made and made his way to Queensland.

“Almost immediately after that order was taken out at the Supreme Court his phone was shut down and he was in a car to Queensland,” Superintendent Taylor said.

“The criminal group squad has been targeting the activities of the Comanchero outlaw motorcycle group.

“As part of this investigation it was deemed necessary to apply to the Supreme Court for a serious crime prevention order on the national president of that gang.”

The criminal group squad is looking closely at all national presidents of outlaw motorcycle gangs and determining whether their activities warrant a serious crime prevention order.

“We have an array of powerful legislation at our disposal and we will use that legislation to fight organised crime where necessary,” Superintendent Taylor said.

Though the club’s National Presidency is now Melbourne-based, The Daily Telegraph reported a number of underworld sources who claim Sydney is still calling the shots — including by running the “Commission”, a Mafia-style tax the Comanchero are trying to place on anyone importing drugs into Australia.

“Most of the drugs come into Sydney and move on from there and is where the power is, although a lot of guys have moved interstate because of the pressure NSW cops keep putting on them,” the publication quoted one underworld source as saying.
