Former WorkSafe chief Clare Amies will help guide the direction of Geelong's Kardinia Park Stadium as the region’s premier sports arena enters its most testing era.
Ms Amies, who joined Geelong-based support service genU as its chief executive officer last year, will replace Libby Mears as a board member of the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust.
She joins as uncertainty remains about how many AFL games and what crowd numbers will be allowed at GMHBA Stadium this football season, and with a major stadium refurbishment on the horizon.
The $142m fifth and final stage redevelopment of the stadium is scheduled to start in September once the Geelong Cats complete their AFL season.
Ms Amies’ appointment was announced by state Minister for Sport, Tourism and Major events Martin Pakula, and welcomed by Trust chair Stephen Gough.
“We congratulate Clare and look forward to her joining the Trust. Clare’s exceptional skillset will contribute positively to the outcomes for the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust,” Mr Gough said.
Ms Amies will join Mr Gough, Gillian Costa, Rob Hulls, Dan Simmonds, Joe Calafiore and Bernadette Uzelac as a Kardinia Park Stadium trustee.
During her four year stint as WorkSafe CEO (2015-2019), Ms Amies oversaw the relocation of the workplace safety watchdog’s head office to Geelong.

She previously held senior roles with the Geelong-based Transport Accident Commission and was chief of the Western Regional Health Centre.
Midway through last year she became chief of genU, which provides support and services to thousands of people in the areas of disability, aged care and employment.
Ms Mears is the chief of Leisure Networks, but relinquished her role as a Kardinia Park Stadium trustee in October to become the chair of Great Ocean Road Coast and Parks Authority.
