A NEW fast food mecca is coming to Cairns with three drive-through restaurants to open alongside a gym, offices and shops in a new greenfield construction project.
Developer Heavey Lex Pty Ltd received approvals in November to build a service station at 109 McGregor Rd in Smithfield — directly across the road from Campus Shopping Village.
It has now overhauled the plan to add seven new tenancies to mix including three mystery fast food outlets.
The supercharged development plan was triggered with the alignment of the Smithfield bypass, which will funnel traffic directly towards the new business precinct.

Property Shop sales and marketing director Ben Johnston said the hunt was on for tenants to fill the centre.
“We’re talking to a number of national franchise groups but we haven’t made any decisions at this point,” he said.
“It’s the same for the service station.
“We are in discussion with a few different operators but there’s been no decision who we’re going to put in there.
“We believe this is the last really good suburban main road service station opportunity on the northern beaches.”
Campus Shopping Village across the road already has KFC and a Domino’s outlets, which would presumably rule those mega-chains out of the running for the fast food tenancy stakes.
Mr Johnston was tight-lipped about identities but said potential tenants included franchises that did not currently operate in Cairns — meaning the likes of Mexican chain Guzman y Gomez could be in the mix.
The project still needs Cairns Regional Council approval and will require significant road construction within the parcel of land, including carparks and a roundabout.
Mr Johnston said the developer wanted to start building as soon as possible.
“We will get it all built in one line, and,” he said.
“There are a lot of roadworks we will have to do, and we want to tie that in with the Smithfield bypass work.”
