A BOUTIQUE music festival on the Surf Coast could change its dates after organisers applied to vary plans to provide “flexibility” in the presence of COVID-19.

By The Meadow music festival organisers have applied to Surf Coast Shire Council to allow for more options around its future events by proposing contingency dates.

The three-day festival in Bambra, which usually takes place in March, was cancelled last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

If council approves the proposed amendment, this year’s festival could be held in late April or November.

Proposed revisions could also give the company the opportunity to choose out of two separate dates in March and April for future events until 2024.

According to the application, organisers anticipate the festival will grow to a capacity of 1250 attendees this year, 1400 in 2022, 1550 in 2023 and 1700 in 2024.

“With modest growth expected moving into future years, the festival forecasts revenue to increase accordingly,” the application read.

“This money largely returns to the pockets of local businesses, artists, suppliers and more, acting as a swift economic boost within a singular weekend for many.”

By The Meadow has taken place annually since 2014 growing from 200 attendees in its inaugural year to 700 in 2018.

The boutique music and arts festival showcase local talent, while providing an “important regional social opportunity for a tight-knit community” in the Otway hinterlands.

The proposal follows in the foot steps of other music festivals such as Golden Plains Music Festival, which also applied for greater flexibility with date changes.

Council will not decide on the application until after February 11.
