THERE are delicious ways to nosh a path through varied stages of the Santos Tour Down Under this year.

On top of the giant spread of food vendors showcasing the state’s produce in the Adelaide City Council Tour Village in Victoria Square, comes a trail after many a traveller’s heart.

The 2016 “tour of bakeries” follows the Bupa Challenge Tour route on January 22, ahead of the Bupa Stage 4, from the start line at Norwood, through the Adelaide Hills and to the finish at Victor Harbor.

Bakeries along the Stage 4 path will be giving out special pastry bags for those on the DIY snack trail.

The bags document the tour route and highlight 14 bread stops, including the renowned Port Elliot Bakery and three bakeries in Strathalbyn.

“It’s a fabulous idea,” says TDU fan Peggy Byrne of Clarence Park.

“I love exploring bakeries. Wherever we go, whether it’s Yankalilla or Burnside, we talk about the great bakeries we visit. They really represent their areas, and following the trail is a great fit with the Tour.”
