A boutique bottle shop, huge three-storey house and a makeover for an ageing service station are among the planning applications before Geelong council this month.
Pakington St, Geelong West
Famed bottle shop Melbourne’s Blackheart and Sparrows could be opening a Geelong West location.
Plans submitted to council revealed a proposal for 332 Pakington St, with internal works required for a store fit-out. No external works were proposed.
The popular franchise, started in 2006 by a brother-sister duo, operates stores in Fitzroy, Brunswick, Hobart, Prahan, Canberra and Melbourne CBD.
“It is not unreasonable to suggest that the proposal may present some opportunities for cross selling with neighbouring hotels and BYO restaurants,” the report read.
“The proposal simply reinforces the existing function of the centre as a neighbourhood convenience precinct.”
The Terrace, Ocean Grove
An Ocean Grove weatherboard house could be knocked down to make way for a three-storey home.
The planning report advertised at council revealed a proposal to develop and subdivide the block on The Terrace, Ocean Grove, into two, building a two-storey and three-storey home on either side.
According to plans, the proposed three-storey home would be made up of four bedrooms and a three-car garage, with a maximum height of 9.7m and it’s own vehicle access.
The second home would have three bedrooms, a two-car garage and a maximum height of 7.5m.
Shannon Ave, Newtown
An ageing Newtown service station could get a makeover, according to a proposal submitted to the City of Greater Geelong.
According to the report, the proposal would renovate for two of three buildings on site.
An existing convenience store and another takeaway food store would be redeveloped with new frontage, canopy and facade.
The existing layout along Shannon Ave, Newtown would remove two fuel pumps and a refuelling lane to increase “efficiency of fuelling at the service station and improve traffic”.
Sandy Creek Road, Little River
An old Little River sand quarry could be given a new lease on life, under plans submitted to the City of Greater Geelong last month.
Golder Associates Pty Ltd applied for a permit to “complete the necessary earthworks in support of the rehabilitation”.
According to the planning report, “site will not be used as a landfill” but it could be used to fill material from infrastructure projects across Melbourne.
Recent infrastructure projects said the company could also “take advantage of the availability of suitable fill material and expedite rehabilitation of the site”.
Works would include resource extraction and the reinstatement of a waterway on the eastern end of the site, as well as earthworks throughout.
