Body of nurse Alina Brakel found in Lismore following NSW floods
A nurse has tragically died in floodwaters in northern NSW after she vanished on Tuesday after failing to arrive at her destination.

The body of a missing New South Wales nurse has been tragically found in floodwaters.
Alina Brakel, 55, had been reported missing in on Tuesday in Monaltrie, just north of Lismore, in an areas that’s been hit by heavy rain.
NSW Police said that Ms Brakel had left Tullera, around 10 km north of Lismore, but had failed to arrive at her destination.
A body of a woman was located by a member of the public on Thursday evening near the intersection of Alexandra Parade and Tweed Street in North Lismore.
While the body has yet to be formally identified, police believe it to be that of Ms Brakel.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death is underway and a report will be prepared for the Coroner, police have said.
The 2017 white Holden Captiva, with NSW registration YHS 51F, which she was travelling in has not yet been located. Police say anyone that finds the car should contact them.
The downpours in NSW have been extraordinary. In the far north of the state, around Byron Bay, almost a metre of fain fell between Tuesday and Wednesday.
A summer of incessant La Nina fuelled rains has left soils waterlogged and rivers swollen leading to more frequent and dangerous flooding.
A break from the rain is now likely in northern NSW for the coming few days at least.
Acting NSW Premier Paul Toole shared his fears that the recurrent flooding could repeat itself with wet weather also forecast for April.
“We may be in this situation, coming back again, in a few weeks’ time,” he said on Wednesday.
“April is expected to be quite wet in many parts of the state.”
