THE State Government quietly gave approval for a 300MW gas-fired power plant on the Adelaide Plains the day before it entered caretaker mode.
The Government approved Alinta Energy’s Reeves Plains project on February 16, the last day it could make major decisions before the election.
The plant, near Roseworthy, which Alinta says will cost about $450 million, has no set start date.
Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis denied keeping the project under wraps during an election campaign where the Government has continuously spruiked its renewable energy credentials.
He said the plant would not prevent Labor from reaching its ambitious pledge for 75 per cent of energy to come from renewable sources.
