AMANDA Abate has always seen herself “as a mother” and now her dream has come true.

The Seven News Gold Coast presenter and husband Brent Beauchamp will become parents in the new year.

“I’ve always seen myself as a mother. Probably for forever,” Abate told the Bulletin.

“I definitely don’t think I was ready for a long time. But the timing is perfect, for both of us. “I’m 15 weeks exactly (today). I’m at the point where I feel more comfortable sharing the news.

“The first trimester can be a bit nerve-racking and you don’t really know what’s going to happen.”

Abate, 34, and Beauchamp have been trying to start a family since getting married last September. She said it was a blessing to have fallen pregnant after their first try of in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

“It’s not a secret and we’re not trying to hide it, we just didn’t want it to be a big deal,” she said.

“We just got so lucky and it worked the first go. We are just so grateful, lucky and excited. I think we both don’t know much about babies to be honest. It will be a good learning curve for us.”

For now, Abate plans to stay on TV screens reading the news Monday to Friday.

“I’ve been feeling really good. I haven’t been sick or needed time off,’’ she said.

“The only real sign that I’m pregnant is that you can see my belly now. At the rate I’m going I’m happy to keep working for as long as I can.”

Abate said there were plans for more children in the future but it was “see how we go”.

“We’re so happy with one. We’re both very new to this. We will get a feel after one.”

Abate has been with the Seven Network for 11 years, starting her career on the Gold Coast then heading to Brisbane and Sydney before returning in 2015.
