The coronavirus pandemic might have forced the cancellation of Anzac Day services, but there are many ways you can still commemorate the occasion in isolation.
As museums go virtual and services move online, Australians are being urged to honour our veterans from home with simple gestures this Anzac Day.
Here’s what’s coming up in your Herald Sun to help with paying your respects from the home front.
AUSTRALIAN FLAG POSTER
Download a print at home Australian flag that can be displayed on your home or in your windows to let all ex-serviceman and women and current Diggers know you are thinking about them. It’s a way — especially in such difficult times — to uphold community values and treasure those people who go above and beyond for everyone else. Download your flag here.
POPPY POSTER
In Thursday’s Herald Sun, find your poppy poster including the Ode for Anzac Day. Alternatively, download the poster here to print at home.
VIRTUAL CANDLE
Our veterans will be honoured from driveways, balconies and living rooms this Saturday as Australians are urged to Light Up The Dawn with candles or hold up a torch at dawn to mark the Anzac Day service, an initiative backed by the RSL and Herald Sun.
We invite you to turn your phone into a shining illumination and light up the dawn with a virtual candle to remember all those who have served and sacrificed. You can access the virtual candle here along with a video of the traditional Ode and the Last Post.
You can use these to Light Up The Dawn or for moments of quiet personal reflection across the weekend.
