Condell Park Fatal Stabbing

A young man’s final words to his mother after he was stabbed repeatedly during a violent home invasion overnight were: “I’m going to die, Mum”.

Luke Lembryk was in his bedroom at his mother’s Condell Park townhouse on Saturday morning when two men broke in.

Just before 3am, the intruders attacked 29-year-old Mr Lembryk, stabbing him in the upper torso.

Police say the victim’s mother heard the commotion and confronted the intruders, who assaulted her before fleeing the home.

“We don’t believe she intervened but believe she was there and unfortunately became involved in the attack when it took place,” Bankstown Police Detective Chief Inspector Darren Sly said.

“She came out, heard noises, scuffling and was confronted by the people.”

The mother, who was scratched and bruised, was heard screaming outside the home on William St as paramedics worked to save her critically injured son.

Mr Lembryk, a plumber, died at the scene.

Detectives are trying to piece together why Mr Lembryk was targeted, a task made difficult by the absence of detailed descriptions of the offenders.

It is understood the victim was known to police for minor matters.

As police cordoned off the street, Mr Lembryk’s mother was discharged from Bankstown Hospital.

She told friends that her son stumbled towards her after being stabbed and told her he was going to die.

The 58-year-old woman, believed to be battling a long-term illness, was at a Sydney police station yesterday being interviewed by detectives and comforted by friends.

Chief Insp Sly said she was “obviously distraught … she is here helping us and hopefully we can get to the bottom of what happened”.

The murder weapon had not been found, Chf Insp Sly added.
