Woolworths has announced price drops for over 400 essential items.

From meats, dairy and bread to vitamins to entertaining essentials, Woolies is decreasing prices to help struggling Aussies afford popular food items and everyday products.

Tea and coffee, yoghurts, cheeses and ready to go meals are some of the most reduced items, with the price of lunch box essentials and cleaning products also revised by the retail giant.

The new prices will be available online and in store throughout Spring, coming into effect on Wednesday August 24 until November 29, 2022.

Woolworths’ Chief Commercial Officer Paul Harker said the shift would help ease the strain on Australians struggling to keep up with the cost of living.

“Our Prices Dropped program will help customers get their Woolies Worth on those everyday essentials, and easy meal solutions throughout Spring,” he said.

“Over 150 of these products have a Health Star Rating of 3.5 or higher. These include key family favourites to make mealtimes easier, healthier and more affordable.”

Woolworths June ‘price freeze’ which affected almost 200 everyday essentials will also run through to the end of the year.

The price of everyday food items has soared in recent weeks with farmers passing on rising production costs to consumers.

In June, Treasurer Jim Chalmers warned that the next few months would be tough for thousands of Aussies, calling the annual inflation rate of 6.1 per cent in the year to June “confronting”.

“It’s going to be a difficult time ahead. We expect it to get higher,” he said in July.

“It will get tougher before it starts to ease.”
