M5 crash victims steal car of men who stopped to help them

Police are searching for a Honda stolen in the aftermath of a sickening crash in the M5 tunnel. Five men were in a car which rear-ended another vehicle before they jumped out, confronted two men who stopped to offer help at knifepoint and then took off in their car. SEE THE VIDEO

Five men involved in a dramatic crash inside the M5 tunnel this morning clambered out of a wrecked Mazda, and immediately stole a Honda that stopped to help.

Footage of the brazen heist, captured on CCTV, shows the driver of the Mazda rear-ended a Range Rover in the M5 tunnel near the intersection of Marsh St, Arncliffe just before 12.30am.

The force of the crash lifted the Ranger Rover’s back wheels off the ground before it lost control, hit the tunnel wall causing sparks, flipped and slid upside down along the road.

Once the Mazda came to a stop facing towards oncoming traffic, five men jumped out and allegedly pulled a knife on the driver of a Honda and his passenger who stopped to make sure everyone in the crash was okay.

The five men sped off in the stolen Honda, leaving the Good Samaritans stranded in the M5 tunnel, and sped towards Marsh St.

The offenders have not been caught.

Investigators are appealing for anyone who sees a black Honda Accord sedan with NSW registration ‘EDB35X’ to not approach the occupants, but to contact triple-0 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Police from St George Area Command are still investigating.
