THE Tasmanian business owner behind luxury lifestyle store Becker Minty has returned home to open a flagship boutique in Hobart.
After spending the last 15 years managing his first store in the trendy Sydney suburb of Potts Point, Jason Minty decided the time was right to bring a Becker Minty space to his home town.
The luxury boutique, which opened at Hobart’s iconic Salamanca Place last week, stocks everything from high-end homewares and furniture to handmade jewellery and Australian art.
“I’ve always wanted to open a version of that store here but I was just waiting for the right time and the right place,” Mr Minty said.
“Then we found this amazing space that as soon as we walked in, we were like, this is it.”
The contemporary space is filled with a curated shopping collection sourced from around the globe and inspired by the 50s, 60s and 70s.
With floor to ceiling windows, the Hobart boutique is twice the size of its Sydney counterpart and will have a special focus on Tasmanian made products and designs.
“We are now on the lookout for local artists, designers and anything from Tassie. I’ve always had a little bit of Tassie in my Sydney store and now I’d like to really push it because there’s so much talent out here,” Mr Minty said.
“This is, like, next level compared to Potts Point – it’s double the size, but it’s a similar concept with similar products. It’s all about mixing art, furniture, home, jewellery, sculpture – you name it.”
Mr Minty also has plans to introduce a dining room within the store, where customers can relax with a glass of champagne and sample Tasmanian oysters while they browse Becker Minty’s luxurious range of products.
Becker Minty Hobart is open Monday to Saturday 10am-5pm and Sundays 10am-4pm.
