LIVE STREAM: CDRL, Rd9, Edmonton v Ivanhoes

Ivanhoes fell just short of a half-century in disposing of CDRL cellar-dwellars Edmonton. And the home side didn’t fare too well in the preliminaries either. RELIVE all the action from our LIVE STREAM

A first half point-scoring blitz has proven the catalyst for a big Ivanhoes win and left struggling Edmonton rooted to the bottom of the CDRL A grade ladder.

The top four-aspiring Knights built a 20-0 lead by the halftime break, effectively shutting the Storm out of the game.

And while it took Ivanhoes almost 15 minutes to add to the scoreline in the second half, the floodgates soon opened again.

To their credit, Edmonton stuck to their task and were rewarded with the final try of the match to leave the scoreline at 48-6.

Meanwhile, Ivanhoes produced a slick display to win the reserve grade clash 44-14.

And they also won the U18 clash, grabbing a comfortable 34-12 victory.

The Knights have been in excellent form in recent weeks and are now flirting with top spot after this result.

The Storm have struggled recently and haven’t won since beating Southern Suburbs back in mid May.

PREVIEW: Fearless Storm set for Ivanhoes threat

Edmonton is living up to its promise of being a pain for their Cairns District Rugby League rivals after pushing finals hopeful Kangaroos to the brink, and now they are eyeing a bigger scalp in the Cairns Post match of the round.

The Cairns Post will livestream Edmonton’s games against Ivanhoes today, with Brothers’ rivalry clash with Kangaroos to be the highlight game on Saturday week.

Edmonton came the closest they have come to securing their first victory of the Cairns District Rugby League season last week, a late Daniel Woodhouse try breaking the Storm’s hearts in the final minutes.

Edmonton’s season is practically already over, with a 0-7 start combined with a four-point deduction all but ending their finals hopes.

Coach Anthony Satrick said last week his team had “nothing to lose”, and vowed to be trouble for their rivals.

That will be put to the test on Sunday when they host Ivanhoes at Petersen Park.

Ivanhoe had the bye last week, but are riding a three-game winning run, the latest a 66-22 win against Mareeba, into this Sunday’s clash.

The refreshed Knights are building under new coach Lindsay Styles, and are on track of achieving the goal of playing finals footy.

The Knights are fighting a building injury crisis, with several players already lost for the season, but Styles is depending on his side’s depth and pride in the jersey - not to mention the class of his existing players - to keep them on track.

The Under-18 game features two of the best in the league, with the Knights (5-1) slight favourites to claim victory against the Storm (3-3).

Ivanhoe won the reserve grade title in 2021 and are equal first, though Edmonton is just two points behind them.

The women’s clash features two sides who are eager to bounce back into the winner’s circle after first-round losses.
