Live Larrakia art exhibition at Mindil Beach Casino Resort’s Sandbar

Mindil Beach Casino Resort (MBCR) is proud to be partnering with the Larrakia Cultural Centre to present a live art show – and auction of an Indigenous piece of art – by Larrakia Elder, Yvonne Odegaard.

Mindil Beach Casino Resort (MBCR) is proud to be partnering with the Larrakia Cultural Centre to present a live art show – and auction of an Indigenous piece of art – by Larrakia Elder, Yvonne Odegaard.

Over the next 8 weeks, Yvonne will be based at MBCR’s Sandbar, painting an impressively large 12m x 2m canvas depicting her ‘Mamalumba Dreaming’, which tells the story of mythical creatures, plants and animals on Larrakia Country.

Members of the public will be able to watch the progression of her breathtaking artwork in real-time on the Sandbar wall.

Collaborative projects such as this one are fundamental to preserving the rich heritage of the Larrakia community and upholding Larrakia history on this Country.

Yvonne’s art depicting dream time animals also promotes the continued education surrounding such a core aspect of the Larrakia people’s culture.

Once Yvonne completes the painting, the canvas will be auctioned off to raise money for her charity of choice – Starlight Children’s Foundation, with all proceeds going toward bringing light, joy and happiness to children facing serious illnesses.
